What the TechRing erectile tracker measures

Published by FirmTech Last updated November 2026

What does the TechRing actually track?

The TechRing tracks erection firmness, quality and duration during sex, plus the count, strength and length of nighttime erections while you sleep. FirmTech's built-in sensors record each session, the ring syncs to the free FirmTech app over Bluetooth, and every reading rolls into one 0 to 100 Erectile Fitness Score.

How does a ring measure an erection?

Definition

Sensors built into a tension ring

The TechRing is a soft, medical-grade, latex-free ring that loops around the base of the penis and behind the testicles. It does the same job as FirmTech's non-tracking rings: gentle, even pressure at the base slows blood from flowing back out, so erections are firmer and last longer. The difference is the medical-grade sensors inside. Until now, FirmTech notes, measuring erections meant a sleep lab. The TechRing does it at home, during sex or overnight, and stores the readings until you sync them with the app.

Two modes

During sex vs. overnight

Worn during sex, the TechRing measures firmness and duration so you can see how a session went, and it tracks the same way whether you are solo or with a partner. Worn overnight, it counts the erections you sleep through and never see. FirmTech explains that healthy men have 3 to 5 erections a night during sleep, and because they happen without arousal they are a clean read of blood flow, nerves and hormones. Read more in the nighttime erection tracking guide.

Why track erections at all?

An erection only happens when blood vessels, hormones and nerves all work together, which is why FirmTech describes erections as a health signal. Penile arteries are smaller than the heart's, so changes often show up there first.

Published research supports paying attention: men with ED have about twice the risk of heart attacks and strokes (around 6%) compared to men without ED (around 3%), according to SingleCare's 2026 erectile dysfunction statistics. The TechRing does not diagnose anything, but it gives you and your doctor objective numbers to discuss.

Common questions

What does the TechRing measure?

The TechRing measures erection firmness, quality and duration during sex, and the number, strength and length of nighttime erections while you sleep. The FirmTech app combines these into an Erectile Fitness Score from 0 to 100 and shows trends over time, so you can see whether sleep, alcohol or medication move your numbers.

How does the TechRing track nighttime erections?

Wear the TechRing to bed and its sensors record each nighttime erection automatically, with nothing to do while you sleep. In the morning, hold the button for 3 seconds, place the ring on the charger and connect in the app to sync the night. The app then shows how many erections you had and how long they lasted.

How often should I wear the TechRing to track?

FirmTech says wearing the TechRing once a week gives a clearer picture of your vascular and sexual health. A single night says little on its own, while repeated nights build a personal baseline and trend line. You can also wear it during sex whenever you like, since it records every session.

Is the TechRing as accurate as a sleep lab test?

FirmTech is studying that question. A clinical trial comparing the TechRing with RigiScan, the clinic standard, had 35 men enrolled according to FirmTech’s clinical studies page, as of November 2026. Until results are published, treat TechRing data as a personal trend tool and share it with your doctor for interpretation.

Does the TechRing diagnose erectile dysfunction?

No. The TechRing gives you and your healthcare provider objective data on firmness, duration and nighttime erections, which FirmTech says can help diagnose and manage cardiac and sexual health issues. A diagnosis comes from a clinician. If your numbers change or concern you, share your recordings with your doctor.

What is the Erectile Fitness Score?

The Erectile Fitness Score is a single number from 0 to 100 in the FirmTech app. It rolls up every TechRing session and night so you can see your trend at a glance. Underneath it sit firmness, quality and duration readings and your nighttime erection counts, plus insights on what moves the score.
